Guided Maine Black Bear Hunting

Black Bears are widely viewed as one of the most desirable game species for big game hunters. Great Pond Wilderness Lodge & Camps has a proven record of success in putting hunters on bear. The terrain surrounding the camps is diverse and provides plenty of food for bears to forage, the ideal setting for successfully bagging a trophy bear. Butcher shop and taxidermist located nearby.

All of our Black Bear hunting is done over active bait sites. Tree stands as well as ground blinds are utilized to have the utmost success at harvesting a bear. We offer a family atmosphere, only take a limited number of hunters every year to ensure a healthy black bear population, and for the fully guided hunt only take ten hunters per week.

All bear hunts are 6 days and 7 nights. Check-in at 12:00 noon the Sunday of arrival. Check-out at 9:00 a.m. the following Sunday.

A Testimonial:

Hey Otis,

I'm still excited about all the events of my first Black Bear Hunt at the Wilderness Lodge. My first memory is of Brandon reminding me to be alert every moment. "You will not hear him come in. He will just be there."

My close friend, S.W., advised me that contracting a guide almost always produces a better hunting experience;...that big game guides have a specific objective: To assure the satisfaction of clipping your tag to your buck, bear, or bull. Your guides, Matt and Brandon, each offered all their skills to get my tag clipped.

I waited five days on two different stands.. Then...I had the thrill and excitement of watching my bear approach from about seventy-five yards out through the thickets and brush, advancing cautiously, retreating quickly, and sniffing always, as he checked and scouted the baited site. This....for over thirty minutes until he vanished. "Patience", they had coached me, and I waited ten minutes....twelve minutes....then, after fifteen minutes, the advice from Brandon proved true.

Sure enough; a two hundred sixty-five pound Maine Black Bear suddenly was standing over the irresistible bait bucket only thirty yards away!!! And...never did I hear any sound! He was just there!
