According to state wildlife biologists, in 2014 Maine's moose population was estimated at 60-70,000. For the 2016 season, the overall success rate for all moose seasons (Sept., Oct., and Nov.) was 75%. The southern Maine moose hunting success rate was 19% while the "traditional" Wildlife Management Districts to the north had an overall success rate of 78%. Hunters harvested 1,609 moose out of 2,140 permits issued. Every year, several moose exceed 1,000 lbs. dressed weight. Trophy racks are not uncommon. Click HERE for additional moose hunt information.
